I was fascinated to learn that the purpose of the RMHC is to help families struggling with problems, mainly financial, stay near and support a hospitalized child. Did you know that an estimated one in every six children in America struggle with hunger. In our nation’s poorest counties, it is reported that an alarming number of children miss several meals a day and go to bed hungry regularly. In thig blog, I will highlight 5 facts about Feeding America and ways we can go about fighting hunger in America. Recently, I had the privilege of taking my children to feed the homeless around our local community. You can check it out HERE . Useful Fact #1: Feeding America is a nationwide network of food banks. According to Feeding America, John van Hengel, a retired businessman, came up with the concept of food banking in Phoenix, AZ, in the late 1960s. Today, Feeding America has hundreds of locations spread across the United States. Click here for the full list.      *A food bank is a warehouse for millions of pounds of food and other products that go out to the community. A food pantry functions as the arms that reach out to that community directly.
