5 Useful Facts about the Ronald McDonald House Charities

Did you know the first Ronald McDonald House opened in 1974 with the help of Dr. Audrey Evans, a pediatric oncologist at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia? Just shy of about 50 years later, there are about 380 Ronald McDonald Houses in 64 countries! In this blog we look at 5 useful facts about the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

Recently I was fortunate enough to take my children to feed the homeless. To learn more about Gorilla Reach, click here.

Useful Fact #1: I must admit, prior to writing this blog, I knew exactly what the RMHC was but in a much more real sense, I had no idea what the RMHC was. I was fascinated to learn that the purpose of the RMHC is to help families struggling with problems, mainly financial, stay near and support a hospitalized child. The RMHC even provides education on how to get basic medical care in vulnerable communities. How awesome is that?

Useful Fact #2: RMHC’s President and CEO is Kelly Dolan. Per RMHC’s website, Dolan brought over 30 years of non-profit management and fundraising experience with her when she stepped into this role in December 2020. She had been working with RMHC since 2017, so she was no stranger to the organization. You can read more about her and her vision for RMHC here.

Useful Fact #3: RMHC seeks to serve as the means to create a world where all children had access to quality health care. Furthermore, they seek to provide the families of these children with reasonable comfort, support, and the ability to actively participate in their loved one’s care.  If you’re looking for a good organization to get behind, this looks like as good of one as any.

Useful Fact #4: RMHC provides more than 1.5 million overnight stays each year. That translates into an estimated $504 million saved in lodging and meal expenses for families in need! As a father, I can appreciate a program like this. If you have experienced a stay at the RMHC, and you don’t mind sharing it, I encourage you to do so in the comments below.

Useful Fact #5: There are various ways to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Click the following links to learn how to donate and or Get Involved.

As always, I hope you found this information useful, and you feel inspired to give back!
