5 Useful Facts about the American Heart Association
Useful Fact #1: Formed on June 10th, 1924, the American Heart Association (AHA) has
been battling against America’s number one killer, heart disease, for nearly
100 years! Prior to the AHA’s organization, American’s who suffered from heart
disease accepted the diagnosis as a death sentence. Little had been done up
until this point to truly research the disease and find a potential cure.
Useful Fact #2: The AHA is currently ran by what they call the CEO
Roundtable. A group of nearly 50 CEOs from various companies who have come
together in efforts to build a high performing and healthy workforce. Members

Useful Fact #3: The AHA exists to fight against and to one day cure heart
disease and stroke. According to New York Health, about 697,000 American
die of hear disease every year. That’s 1 in every 5 deaths. 382,820 Americans
die each year from Coronary Heart Disease (CHD), which is the most common type
of heart disease. Furthermore, 805,00 Americans suffer a heart attack each
year. These numbers are absolutely eye opening! According to the Centers for
Disease Control (CDC), high blood pressure and high cholesterol are leading
causes of heart disease.
Useful Fact #4: Over the years, here’s how giving to the AHA has impacted
the United States:
*Since February 2018, America there has been a 13.6%
reduction in deaths from stroke.
*Since 1949, there has been a staggering $5 billion
invested in research funding. That’s more than any other US organization,
excluding the federal government.
*Since February 2018, America has seen a 15.1%
reduction in deaths from heart disease.
*12 million people reached by nutrition improvements
in 44 communities.
*Over 19 million patients benefiting from a quality
care initiative for high blood pressure.
*22 million people trained in CPR each year.
